Miniature Porcelain Cats as Cake Topper for Wedding
I recently learned that some of our beautiful porcelain miniature kitties we carry received top honors as a wedding cake topper for one of our customers. What higher praise is that!
Seven separate cakes with one that showcased the cats.
The very unique wedding cake was one in a grouping of seven cakes elegantly arranged in a metal stand. The bride and her father actually made the cakes themselves.
It was so kind for the new couple to share these photos with us. And they also relayed this story to us which is bittersweet. “The four kitties represented the cats we had between us. Sadly, in the last nine months, three of them have gone over the rainbow bridge (the orange one most recently). The tuxedo cat is still with us and doing well in her new home.”
We wish the couple many happy years ahead and many more cats to love!

If you like cat tiles you might be familiar with the artist Claudia Sanchez. She does beautiful cat art that is converted onto ceramic tiles. I have carried her vivid colored cat tiles for several years. Recently she changed manufacturers and came out with new 8″ x 8″ designs which I found on my last trip to the LA gift show. They are very unique with a black background that makes the image stand out. Here are a few of them that I have featured on my website.
Cat with Blossom
This next tile is a delightful & whimsical tile showing two “best friends” enjoying the evening sky.
Best Friend in the Moonlight
In addition to the 8″ x 8″ tiles, I have coaster size tiles, 4″ x 4″. These make a beautiful set to own or to give as a gift. They can also be purchased individually if you happen to fall in love with one of them! Here is a grouping of the cat faces that Claudia is known for. (Clicking on the group will take you to the first style on my website)
Cat Faces Coaster Tiles
I hope you enjoy viewing these beautiful tiles. They are very versatile -use as wall, counter or desk art, a backsplash in your kitchen, decoration on your bath or patio wall, or as a trivet. Every January & July I visit the LA Gift Show to search for new and whimsical cat gifts to sell on my website, georgiasgifts.com. I try to find things that are brand new or that one won’t see in every other gift store they visit, either online or in person.
Happily I found a couple of things this past July that I can’t wait to get in to show my customers!
Chistmas Cats Towel
I love cat kitchen towels and ran across this small company from California that specializes in flour sack towels and has a nice inventory of cat styles. I have already gotten my first shipment in and have them on my site under cat kitchen decor. They join my other assorted flour sack, linen and cotton cat towel styles.
Black Cat Slippers
Calling all black cat lovers! Cat slippers are always popular and fun and I found the most adorable black cat slippers from Aroma Home. These are soft and comfy with cute pink noses & ears, so hard to resist! Other cute cat items coming from this company include cat sock slippers and cat screen wipes.
“Advice From a Cat” Pillow
You may be familiar with the cat “word pillows” from Manual Woodworkers as they are eternally popular. This fall you’ll find some brand new pillows you will want to have for your own collection or to give as the perfect holiday gift for a cat lover. I don’t have photos yet for the new styles, but shown here is a favorite I will be adding to my site.
For the Laurel Burch cat lovers, I’ll have the newest fall handbags & scarves coming in, probably early in September. Also some beautiful glass cat products from the Joan Baker company. You’ll see new cat vases, suncatchers and candle holders.
I hope you will be as excited about these new items as I am! If you have some ideas or requests for something you would like me to add to my site, please comment below, ask on facebook or send me an email. I’m always open to new ideas!

I have featured ceramic tiles with the colorful cat art by Claudia Sanchez for several years on my website. She has a loyal following and some of the pieces are very popular, especially “Samantha”. This design is a multi colored close-up of a cat’s face with eyes that mesmerize you.
“Samantha” Ceramic Cat Tile
Sadly I have sold out of the Samantha tile and can not reorder it at this time. This brings me to the good news! I’m excited to tell you that the artist has a new distributer and they are working together to redesign the older tiles and bring out new ones. I love the new name of the line, ”Claudia’s Cats”. These are scheduled to be available in the fall, just in time for your holiday shopping!
Here is a preview of some of the styles that will be coming out. Keep in touch on my website or like my facebook page to learn when they are in stock. Let me know if you are a collector of Claudia Sanchez and which tiles are your favorites, both old and new!

I’ve always been a little confused about the difference in the terms “ceramic” and “porcelain”. It seems to be an interchangeable (or sometimes combined) word for figurines although most people perceive porcelain as being higher quality. After much researching I’ve discovered various differences between them. Without getting into the technical and scientific facts of the types of clays, firing temperatures, etc., here are a few easy ways to determine the type of ceramic….
- The category “ceramic” includes pottery, bone china, earthenware and porcelain.
- Porcelain originated in China and derives its current name from porcellana, an old italian word for ”cowrie shell” because of its resemblance to the translucent surface of the shell
- Porcelain is made with light colors of clay minerals and fired at a high temperature giving it a glossy, glass like quality.
- Tap a porcelain figure and you’ll hear a bell-like ring while the ceramic figure will make a dull sound.
- The surface of porcelain is fine and smooth, not grainy like other types of ceramics.
- Ceramic is very opaque, while porcelain is translucent. Hold your figurine up to a light and move your finger behind the item. You should be able to see a slight shadow of your finger if it is porcelain.
In reading this it sounds like porcelain figurines are much more desirable than ceramics. But in fact, the important thing to remember is to purchase what YOU like and will enjoy viewing and collecting during the years. That is the true value of a figurine.
Check out the pictures below. Tell me which one you think is porcelain and which is ceramic. (clicking on the pictures will take you to my website where you will find out the answer).

One of the popular pages on my website is for cat kitchen decor so I’m always on the search for new designs. If you check out the web page you’ll see my recent addition, a sweet grey tabby cat checking out a vase of pretty pink flowers on a flour sack towel with a matching potholder.

In addition to this design, I’ve added a new product with the black cat design featured on my website page- a tea cozy. What a perfect name for this cover! The cozy keeps your teapot warm, and when teamed up with a matching towel and potholder also gives your room a “cozy” feel.

Visit my site to see more kitchen decor with a cat theme. In addition to towels and potholders, you’ll find small cutting boards, spoon rests, mugs, aprons, and more. If you are searching for something special, feel free to comment or email me!

To survive a manufacturing company must always have new styles coming out and also retire some pieces to keep the line in demand. The Whimsiclay cats I sell on my website usually have new designs about twice a year ( although this year it’s been less).
The holiday cat figurines are always cute and sell well. Several older styles and a few recent ones have been retired or in some cases, just out of stock for the rest of the year. Luckily, a couple of my very favorites are still around and I think are hard to beat. Check out Rudy and Sparkie, shown below. If you like them don’t put off purchasing from my website or anywhere else as this could their last season.
